On September 6, 2024, Kildare County Council formalized a contract with M.L. Quinn Ltd for the construction of a new fire station in Maynooth, County Kildare. The facility, designed by Vincent Hannon and Associates Architects, will be situated in Mullin Park. The €4.4 million project is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage through the National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management.
The new station will feature a three-bay appliance area and incorporate environmentally friendly elements such as photovoltaic panels, air-to-water heating systems, and enhanced insulation for doors, windows, roofs, floors, and walls to meet current building regulations. Additional amenities include a training yard with a drill tower, a lecture room, a canteen, and individual changing areas for each crew member.
In 2023, Maynooth fire station responded to 378 incidents, ranking it as the third busiest among the six fire stations in County Kildare. The new facility aims to enhance the station’s capacity to serve the community effectively.
Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating that the new station will provide a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the Maynooth community. Caolan Quinn, Contracts Manager at M.L. Quinn Ltd, also conveyed the company’s commitment to delivering the project efficiently and to high standards.
